The following members have expressed their interest in running for a seat on the board or continuing for another term. Members present at the annual meeting on Saturday November 19th from 3-5 at the Valley Library will vote to elect board members.

Candidate Statements/Bios:
Brandy Diaz Scott (continuing)
Brandy has served on the board for 2 years and as secretary for the past year. She’s been an educator for over 10 years. She holds a degree in Early Childhood Education and a Masters Degree in Reading, K-12. She now serves as the reading specialist for the Tlingit Culture Language and Literacy Program at Harborview Elementary School in Juneau. Brandy’s interests outside of teaching include reading, cooking, gardening, and hiking with her husband, Eric and their dog, Butch.
Richard Radford (continuing)
My name is Richard Radford, and I have served as a member of The Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries board since January 2014. I am committed to improving the quality of our community both professionally and personally. I work at the State of Alaska, and have been a journalist for more than a decade, mostly penning arts and cultural pieces. Another strong passion of mine is Alaska Native language and culture revitalization; I took part in helping to get legislation passed to officially recognize 20 Alaska Native languages, and have been organizing and facilitating a Tlingit Language Learners Group (an official library program) for the past two and a half years. I have enjoyed serving on the FOJPL board, and above all, I believe that we can improve education, literacy, and respect in Juneau by creating vibrant and active venues for the community at large. I ask that you consider my service as a board member for renewal. Gunalchéesh!
Nancy Barr
Education
– B.A. and M.A from the University of Illinois
Work history includes
– technician at the National Marine Fisheries Service Auke Bay Laboratory.
– participation in Juneau’s elementary school Sea Week program (presented programs in Juneau elementary school classes, helped develop a written curriculum for the program, and participated in teacher training workshops in other Alaskan communities)
– author or co-author several publications on marine subjects – including a series of articles that ran in Alaska Magazine and a book describing shallow water marine invertebrates of the state.
– University of Alaska Southeast library’s liaison to the NMFS Auke Bay lab library.
– contract worker and volunteer in collections management and conservation at the Juneau City Museum and the Alaska State Museum.
I have volunteered at The Amazing Bookstore virtually since its inception and am currently involved with in-house distribution of all materials donated to the bookstore.
I would like to be part of the Board of the Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries because I believe strongly in the role of the public library in the community. In Juneau, the Library, the Board, and the Bookstore are three parts of a special whole. I would bring any skills I have to my service on the Board. If, working closely with Scott Macaulay, the Board’s representative from the Bookstore, I could help contribute to continued cooperation between the Library and the Bookstore, I would find that especially satisfying.
Scott Macaulay (continuing)
My name is Scott Macaulay, I’m a life-long Alaskan, and I work for Alaska Marine Highways. I have always been a voracious reader. I’ve enjoyed working for and being on the Board of Friends of the Library for the past several years. I have the time to devote to it on my “off” weeks. I have developed good working relationships over the years with the fine people running the bookstore, which has been invaluable in my position as Liaison between the Board and the volunteers. I also work as a volunteer in the Book Store three times a week during my “off” weeks from work. I hope I am re-elected to serve on the Board.
